The Credit Bureaus would like you to believe that all information stays for 7-10 years, regardless of anything you do.

  • If debt collectors are aware that your employer disapproves, they may not approach you at work.


  • Debt collectors are prohibited from making false accusations against you or using other deceptive tactics to recover debts.


  • When calling you, debt collectors must introduce themselves.


  •  If you urge debt collectors to stop contacting you in writing, they must stop.


You have the right, under federal law, to request that the collection agencies stop calling or mailing you.
